Since 2015. Young Enterprising Society has bought 11 lots on 4 sites to bring fruit trees to Milwaukee to educate children, provide healthy, free produce and eliminate blight. The trees are planted on sites that were recently vacant and suffered from scores of illegal dumping and litter.
Our program has been proven as an effective training method through a parallel program currently being administered in Chicago by the Mycelia Project. The program has been able to train 45 students this year in cooking, canning, carpentry, plumbing, electrical and math skills through the urban farming and Aquaponics. The gardens attract the surrounding community including members of city government, universities, & hundreds of volunteers as evidenced in Chicago. We will have similar success here in Milwaukee.
